Indie Horror Game Granny Gains Success By Maintaining Consistency

If your childhood is full of the usual trips to amusement arcades in malls, then you have probably encountered horror games in first person shooter perspectives like House of the Dead. Though the golden age of arcade games are long over, it is never truly gone. Arcade-style horror games such as Granny have hung on to the admiration of arcade game lovers though it may be playable in a different platform.

The creator of Granny is Swedish game developer Dennis Vukanovic a.k.a. DVloper who is quite famous for his horror game creations like Slendrina. DVloper’s mobile game creations are built through the Unity development platform. Granny is essentially a spin-off of the popular Slendrina series. Granny had been a hit after its mobile release on November 24, 2017 through the numerous features from Youtube game vloggers like FGTeev and Random Encounters. A year later, the game was made available on Steam for $4.99. Granny is still popular in the current scene of horror games.

Granny’s game fundamentals are essentially uncomplicated. Players have to accomplish one thing, to escape the house. Initially, players will awake in an unknown and creepy house. While trying to escape the house, players will encounter a number of impediments. Needlessly to say, the ultimate impediment is the crazy old murderous woman referred to as Granny. Players have two options to break out of the house, attempting to open the locked front door or repairing a broken car in the garage. However, it does not stop with that. Players will need to gather items in the house that will help them escape and they will also eventually encounter the Granny’s monstrous pets. Aside from the aforementioned challenges, the final trial is being able to complete the game simply by making as minimal sounds as possible since Granny is triggered by sounds.

On top of these things, players can also pick from five other game modes. For citation , practice mode is the best option. After the practice mode, players can choose from Easy, Normal, Hard, or Extreme depending on their difficulty preference. Players can challenge themselves to complete the game in all these modes.

Compared to today’s games, the graphics of Granny is in fact nothing to rave about. As a matter of fact, Granny is similar to that of an 80s blocky first person shooter game that is often found in amusement arcades. What it lacks in the graphics department, it balances through other things, specifically game play mechanics and its consistency as an incredible horror game that will keep you at the edge of your seat.
